Construction and offshore

Haavind has one of Norway’s largest and most highly qualified legal teams within the construction and offshore field. The team represents clients in a wide range of projects, incuding infrastructure, real estate, energy and aquaculture.

Our lawyers offer a combination of excellent legal knowledge and in-depth sector-specific insight and commercial awareness. We assist clients throughout all project phases, providing expert advice as the project proceeds forward to ensure foreseeability and to reduce the risk of disputes.

Haavind has for years been a tier 1 firm within construction in both Legal 500 and in Chambers and Partners. We have lawyers individually ranked both in the “Hall of fame” and as “leading individuals” in this area of expertise. In the national rankings yearly published in The Financial Daily we have for several years, both as a law firm and as individuals, been ranked on top by our peers in other law firms.

Based on our history and our experience in handling construction and offshore projects in general, we know that these projects are particularly exposed to conflicts and disputes. Haavind has represented construction and offshore clients in a huge variety of court and arbitration disputes over many decades. Our lawyers are highly skilled and very well trained to handle all kinds of huge and complex construction and fabrication disputes in court.

In our construction and offshore group, 9 out of 10 partners are admitted to appear before the Norwegian Supreme Court.

Sharing knowledge is also important to us. The lawyers in our construction and offshore team have written and published commentaries to several key Norwegian standard contracts, e.g. NS 3430 (1994), NS 8405 (2004) and NS 8407 (2013). Our lawyers are regularly appointed as arbitrators both in ad-hoc and in institutionalized international arbitrations. We are also frequently asked to speak at international conferences and forums, on private clients and public entities’ seminars and on various branch and business events.

‘The team delivers on time and they also have a solid understanding of the commercial aspects of contracts, which enables us to negotiate better terms with our counterparties’
