Enova-supported hydrogen projects along the Norwegian coast take important steps towards realization

The five hydrogen production plants that were awarded support from Enova in the fall of 2024 have now announced that they are receiving the support and thus taking on a significant commitment to implement the projects.

In the fall of 2024, Enova awarded NOK 777 million in support to five hydrogen production facilities along the Norwegian coast, from the Oslo Fjord in the south-east to Bodø in the north. Hydrogen producer Green H is involved on the ownership side in three of the projects, with locations in Bodø, Slagentangen in the Oslofjord and Kristiansund. The other two projects, which are located in Florø and Egersund, both have Hydrogen Solutions as a co-owner.

After the commitment of support in the fall of 2024, the participants were given a three-month acceptance period for the offer of support. By signing the commitment letter from Enova, the companies undertake to pay a penalty corresponding to 5% of the full amount of support if the projects are not implemented as planned. The aim of this mechanism is to provide increased incentives for the implementation of the project through increased awareness among the companies as a result of a specific cost risk in the event of non-implementation.

The focus on hydrogen production along the coast is seen in the context of a focus on the use of hydrogen as a low- and zero-emission fuel on ships. Under the programs “Hydrogen in vessels” and “Ammonia in vessels”, Enova can support the construction of hydrogen vessels. The aim is to demonstrate functioning value chains for hydrogen in the maritime sector up to 2030 and form the basis for the further transition of the maritime sector towards a low-emission society in 2050.
