He also regularly acts as arbitrator in domestic and international arbitrations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He has provided advice to a considerable number of Norwegian and international clients in respect of complex and high-value disputes before state courts and arbitral tribunals, both domestic and international arbitrations. He assists in all stages of a dispute, from early case assessments and claim letters to settlement negotiations, mediation and court and arbitral tribunal proceedings to enforcement proceedings.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mikal has experience from a variety of industries, in particular banking and finance (including derivatives), construction, defence, energy (oil &amp; gas and renewables), insurance, shipbuilding, and disputes within corporate M&amp;A.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His track-record as counsel includes several of the largest and most complex disputes in Norway, including successfully defending a client against a NOK billion claim in the state courts, successfully representing a client in a EUR billion claim in mediation, and successfully representing a client in an ICC arbitration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>His extensive dispute resolution experience covers many different types of contract, including construction (onshore and offshore), consulting, defence, distribution, financial derivatives, gas sales, guarantees, IPOs, leasing, loans, manufacturing, non-disclosure, seismic, shareholders, shipbuilding, SPAs, subsea installations and transport, as well as a variety of other types of disputes, including public licences and permits, sanctions and ship collisions, and cases concerning challenges and enforcement of arbitral awards.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote alignleft has-text-align-left is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"has-text-align-left\"><em>Mikal Br\u00f8ndmo is an outstanding lawyer &#8211; adept at managing complex technical disputes and with excellent strategic instincts. When dealing with difficult opponents, he is a tenacious fighter that clients want in their corner.<\/em><\/p>\n<cite>Legal 500, 2025<\/cite><\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p>Br\u00f8ndmo also acts as arbitrator in international and domestic arbitrations, in ad hoc arbitrations and in institutional arbitrations such as under rules of the SCC Arbitration Institute (SCC), the Nordic Offshore &amp; Maritime Arbitration Association (NOMA), the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS), the Danish Institute of Arbitration (DIA), the Oslo Chamber of Commerce (OCC), and the London Court of International Arbitration (LCIA).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>He was a member of the working group of ICC Commission on Arbitration &amp; ADR\u2019s report on leveraging technology for fair, effective, and efficient international arbitration proceedings. He is a member of the ICC Commission on Arbitration and ADR, a board member of the Finland Arbitration Institute, and a Vice-Chair of the International Bar Association\u2019s Arbitration Committee.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mikal is a lecturer in the Faculty of Law at the University of Oslo, teaching contract law and civil procedure, and he is a censor in the fields of contract law and arbitration. He regularly publishes articles on contract law and dispute resolution, and he often speaks at conferences in Norway and internationally.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Mikal Br\u00f8ndmo is the only Norwegian recognised as \u201cThought Leader\u201d in Lexology index (formerly Who\u2019s Who Legal) in both Arbitration (2025) and Commercial Litigation (2025).\u202fMikal is recommended by Legal 500 (2025) within three categories: Offshore construction, Construction and Dispute resolution.
